Stay on Bora Bora on a budget
If you ever tried to find a place to stay on Bora Bora on a budget you know it is a hard task. Digging through several websites, trying to find the budget accommodation is definitely time-consuming. After few hours of searching, you finally find a few guesthouses and voilá. Their website does not work and email address does not exist. It is easy to gain a feeling that there is no way to stay on Bora Bora on a budget. But don´t worry. We did the hard work for you.
Why is it so hard to find a place to stay on Bora Bora on a budget? Simply, most of the budget providers are guesthouses and family-run pensions. Therefore they do not advertise much. You will not find most of them on sites like Booking and Agoda. The cheapest accommodation that can be found on Bora Bora through Booking usually starts at $250 per room per night. No wonder most people think, Bora Bora is unaffordable.
However, Bora Bora hosts most hotels and guest houses than any other island in French Polynesia. Besides the most luxurious hotels with overwater bungalows, you find family-run hostels, pensions and guest houses, even Airbnb accommodation and Couchsurfers on Bora Bora.
So, if your accommodation is the least of your interest, you can find a standard room for a very reasonable rate.

Airbnb
We were very pleasantly surprised when we found out that even on Bora Bora, there are people providing accommodation through Airbnb. And there are quite a few many of them. From very basic accommodation for as little as $28 per night, to super luxurious places, everyone can find what suits them best.
Airbnb is definitely an option if you do not want to spend ridiculous money on hotels and instead support and meet locals. But be aware, these places are highly popular. Therefore, secure your bed well ahead, to avoid disappointment. We have tried to find our accommodation through Airbnb four months prior to our arrival, and literally, every place was fully booked.
Couchsurfing
There are not many couchsurfers on Bora Bora, but there are some. Unfortunately, many travellers interchange Couchsurfing with just a free overnight stay. That is not what Couchsurfing is about in the first place. Couchsurfers are willing to share their homes with you because they are interested in meeting people, exchanging cultural experiences, sharing stories and making friends. So, if you are just looking for a place to stay for free on Bora Bora, this might not be the best way to do it. Especially on Bora Bora, couchsurfers experience a lot of requests from travellers, who in exchange for a free bed do not want to spend any time with the host. So, if you consider Couchsurfing, make sure you are on the same page as the Couchsurfers community.
Camping
For the adventurous ones, looking for the most authentic place to stay on Bora Bora on a budget, camping on a private Motu could be the choice. It might be a little bit of hassle making a reservation though. The campsite has a really old website, that has not been updated in years. However, you need to make a reservation through a phone call. As I said, it is a hassle, but the night cost between $15-20. According to some reviews on travel sites, it is a really good place. You camp on a Motu, but there is very little information about it available elsewhere.
So, there you have it. We hope you like it. If you find what you have been looking for let us know in a comment section down below. Do you know about any other place we have missed on our list? Let us know, we love to hear from you.
