Travel planning has become so much easier with the Internet, but at the same time, for some, it became much more confusing. There are so many resources, which one should you use?
 
There were times when we tried to use all of them.
 
We tried to know all the websites, all the resources, because we were worried, that we will miss some important deals. Over time, we realized that it´s not possible and we started singling out the best resources that work best for us. And hopefully for you too.
 
To help you with travel planning we gathered our favourite resources we use all the time while planning our trips

ACCOMMODATION

Booking

Probably the most popular booking site for accommodation. Even though we prefer Airbnb we use Booking as a benchmark for getting an idea of how expensive the place or a city really is. It really helps us with our expectations. ​

Airbnb

Airbnb changed the way we travel for good. This is our number one site to search for accommodation. We have found the best rooms around the whole world. Our best memories come from travelling through Airbnb.

HostelWorld

If hostels are your things, this is a great place to find great deals. They are the largest hostel booking site and they make finding the perfect hostel simple. You can also find guesthouses, B&Bs and sometimes even hotels.

HotelsCombined

Another great search tool, not just for budget accommodation. HotelsCombined crawls through many booking sites at once to find the best possible rate for you. A great tool to search through thousands of sites at once.

Homestay

A fast-growing site that search through 55 thousand homes in more than 150 countries. Homestay offers home-sharing of quality rooms at friendly budget prices. We always use Airbnb and Homestay to search for a more friendly experience.

Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is not only a way how to a sleepover, but it is also a great way how to meet locals. It´s a network for budget travellers who host each other. Use this platform to engage with locals, not just only to find free accommodation.

FLIGHTS

Skyscanner

Skyscanner is a base searching tool for us when it comes to looking for flights. It is a great comparison tool, it allows you very easily compare prices and timing.

Momondo

Momondo is another great site that compares hundreds and hundreds of sites for the best flight deals.

Kayak

Kayak is a great airline aggregator site that is very popular when it comes to search for flights. It also shows you advice on whether to buy the deal or wait based on historical price trends.

Expedia

Expedia is an online travel agent that owns a lot of online travel websites and provides like Orbitz or Travelocity. As it is an online travel agent, you can book flights directly on site.

Kiwi

We use Kiwi not only for searching the cheapest possible flights but also for inspiration. Kiwi is a unique platform that piecing together the cheapest flights on a variety of airlines.

WhichBudget

WhichBudget is a great site to figure out which airline flies to which airport. It is a search tool that doesn´t sell tickets. If you find what you have been looking for, the site will redirect you to the airline.

Secret Flying

Secret Flying is a great way for spotting flight price mistakes or error fares. To get the most out of it, subscribe to their newsletter or follow them on social media.

Scott´s cheapest flights

Scott´s cheapest flights send alerts each day about best travel deals and flight price mistakes. It offers free and premium membership, where premium members get noticed about the deals first.

Holiday Pirates

Holiday Pirates find the cheapest travel deals for accommodation, package tours and transportation every day. From flights to buses and train tickets to travel deals, they send you alerts daily.

VISA AND VACCINATION

Project Visa

Project Visa is a great site for planning your trip. This site lists all the visa requirements of all countries and also outlines where embassies for that particular country are all over the world, should you need to apply before arrival.

Vaccination

A great tool to quickly research what kind of vaccination you need for a particular country. It is a great resource tool not only for immunization, but it contains health travel notices, healthy travel packing lists and so much more.

Passport Index

The Passport Index is the world’s most popular online interactive tool, which collects, displays and ranks the passports of the world. It is also quick to find out if you need a visa for a particular country.

GETTING AROUND

Rome2Rio

Rome2Rio offers a great overview of all the possible routes from place A to a place B. It searches up the fastest, cheapest and most convenient way to travel by train, bus, car, plane and even ferries.

Seat 61

The ultimate travel bible for those who travel by train. The Man in Seat 61 has the best and most detailed information about times and ticket booking for almost every train in the world.

Flixbus

If you plan to travel around Europe, especially central Europe, and you don´t mind travelling by bus, try Flixbus. Flixbus connects more than 2 thousand destinations in 30 European countries.

Omio (GoEuro)

One of the leading European travel booking platform. It´s also bought site Rome2Rio in order to create world booking platform. Great for comparison of prices for transport around Europe.

Greyhound

Greyhound is a great site for searching bus connections, especially in Northern America and also Australia. We use them whenever we want to travel on a budget without hiring a car.

RegioJet

Have you ever heard of RegioJet? It´s a Czech based transportation company that connects major stops around Europe and you can choose from trains to buses.

BUDGET PLANNING

Numbeo

Numbeo is the world’s largest database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide. Great tool for budgeting costs of your trip.

Expatistan

Another great tool to figure out how a certain country is expensive. You can compare your home country with another and see the difference in costs of livings.

Gasoline prices

If you plan a road trip, this site is a must. It shows the real data for a litre of fuel in every country in the world. A great tool to get the basic knowledge about prices and a great tool to help you with budgeting.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

True Traveller

Our first to go travel insurance company. Great company the only downside is that you have to be European to be able to buy insurance. Great company to go with for trekking in Nepal too.

World Nomads

One of the most popular insurance company between travellers. It allows you to purchase or extend your policy at any time, anywhere in the world, which means not having to return to your home country to set up a new policy should you decide to extend your travels.

Great site for comparing rental cars around the world. This site combines all the popular sites o rentals like Avis, Hertz, Budget car or Europcar.

Wicked campers

Great site to hire a fun and lovely campervans worldwide. Their campervans are fun, reliable and most importantly cheap.

REVIEWS AND GUIDES

Lonely Planet

Mostly we use Lonely Planet guidebooks, not as much the website. Guidebooks are a great primary resource of information. Always keep an eye out on the Lonely Planet Publications website for sales.

WikiTravel

A great and underestimated tool to get quick information about a particular destination. Wikitravel lists everything from must-see sites to decent accommodation. It is a great way to do the initial research.

Trip Advisor

We use Trip Advisor mainly for reviews of accommodation, restaurants and activities. Of course, you can use their forums to connect with other travellers and ask questions.

FUN THINGS TO DO

Overseas Attractions

Overseas Attractions focus on providing information on attractions around the world. Plus they share itineraries, expert travel advice, tips and information of the most popular attractions.

Groupon

Groupon is a deal website where you can buy amazing deals not just on hotels, restaurants but attractions also. It’s a great way to do fun activities for cheap!

UNESCO

Are you looking for places to visit? UNESCO Heritage site is a great place to start. They list all the amazing places in every country.

Viator

Great place to look for tours and activities in almost every city around the world. If tours are your thing, don´t forget to search this site for the best prices.

TravelZoo

TravelZoo aggregates deals for flights, accommodations, activities and more. You can also sign up for a newsletter that offers some amazing deals every week.

Livingsocial

Living Social is another site that offers deals and discounts on restaurants, activities, bars, travel groups and much, much more.

OTHER

Eat with

This site offers great dining experience around the world. Great site to search for the social eating experience also meeting locals.

Uber

Great app to have in the phone in case you end up somewhere and need a ride. We use Uber more than just a regular taxi because we find it more affordable.

Sleeping in Airports

A great site to explore airports around the world. The base of this site is built around sleeping in airports, but there is much more information about every airport.
